Advances in Curved-Foot Dynamic Walking

چکیده
Many researchers have successfully designed and built dynamic bipedal walkers with curved feet. The design process for these walkers, however, is typically based on intuition and/or poorly documented, suggesting the opportunity for improvements to be made through more systematic design. The most energy efficient bipeds have curved feet, as studies have shown that replacing point feet with curved feet can produce significant energy savings, both in simulation and in experiment [1, 2]. Additionally, during normal human walking, the center of pressure traces a nearly circular arc from heel contact until opposite heel contact when plotted in a shank-fixed frame [3]. It follows that understanding the design of curved feet has potential implications for lower limb protheses.

From Passive Dynamic Walking to Passive Turning of Biped walker
Dynamically stable biped robots mimicking human locomotion have received significant attention over the last few decades. Formerly, the existence of stable periodic gaits for straight walking of passive biped walkers was well known and investigated as the notion of passive dynamic walking. This study is aimed to elaborate this notion in the case of three dimensional (3D) walking and extend it f...
متن کاملEnergy Dissipation Rate Control Via a Semi-Analytical Pattern Generation Approach for Planar Three-Legged Galloping Robot based on the Property of Passive Dynamic Walking
In this paper an Energy Dissipation Rate Control (EDRC) method is introduced, which could provide stable walking or running gaits for legged robots. This method is realized by developing a semi-analytical pattern generation approach for a robot during each Single Support Phase (SSP). As yet, several control methods based on passive dynamic walking have been proposed by researchers to provide an...
متن کاملCurved walking in hemiparetic patients.
OBJECTIVE Curved walking requires complex adaptations, including shift of body weight to counteract the ensuing centrifugal force, and the production of strides of different length between legs. We hypothesized that gait capacities would be more stressed in hemiparetic patients than in healthy subjects when walking along curved, compared with straight, trajectories. METHODS Twenty chronic, st...
متن کاملA Study on Stability of Limit Cycle Walking Model with Feet: Parameter Study
In this paper, two kinds of feet, namely, curved and flat feet, are added to limit cycle walking model to investigate its stability properties. Although both models are already proposed and are investigated, most previous works are focused on efficiency and gait behaviors. Only the stability properties of the simplest walking model conceived Garcia et al. are well define...
متن کاملDynamic plantar pressure distribution during terrestrial locomotion of bonobos (Pan paniscus).
We collected high-resolution plantar pressure distributions of seven bonobos during terrestrial bipedal and quadrupedal locomotion (N = 146). Functional foot length, degree of hallux abduction, and total contact time were determined, and plots, showing pressure as a function of time for six different foot regions, were generated. We also studied five adult humans for comparison (N = 13). Both l...
